Eduard 1/48 Sopwith Camel
After brushing the prop with Model Master (MM) wood, It was masked with 1/16" chart tape and brushed with MM leather.  After drying it was dry brushed with a bit more leather to soften the laminations.  The final coat was Tamiya clear orange to simulate the shellac.  The cabane and interplane struts got the same treatment except of the masking.  Just some dry brushing to get some "wood grain" on the struts.
I wasn't happy with the way the preshading was going.  It was nearly impossible to get a thin line down either side of each rib and not become a dark black mass down the center.  So I put a light coat of black over the entire wings and lightly wet sanded with a 3200 micro mesh sheet, letting it get down in between the ribs.
I know, I know... I don't believe it either... I built a WWI plane.  Scary part is, I liked doing it.  The rigging had put me off and while I made my share of mistakes on this , my 1st WWI bird, it was a great learning experience and the 2nd one should go much easier.  the rigging turned out to be the most fun.
The Eduard kits has great detail that is enhanced with a large fret of photo etch details.  The only detail I tried to improve on was the coaming around the cockpit.  I used a thin strip of lead foil, working around the edge and using CA glue as I went.  After burnishing the foil around on the inside, the little creases ended up looking like the folds leather would have.
