ICM 1/48 Yak-7DI (early 9)
(click photos to enlarge)
The inspiration for this model was seeing a Yak-9 at the WWII air show in Reading , PA, an event that will be a regular trip for me from now on. The 400 MPH knife edge the length of the runway was a thing of beauty.
This build was part of an OOTB group build, so it's … er… ahh… OOTB. The ICM kit was my 1st departure from a Tamiya or Hasegawa and I learned the true menaing of what a shake and bake kit is. And it wasn't this one. Actually it went together fairly well with the bulk of the work getting some parts sanded to a scale thickness. The soft plastic made carving very easy. A fair amount of work was needed around the wing roots and the intake in the wing root. It does come with an engine but I left it out as I never intended to have the cowls open. The kit decals were used and while fairly thick, I managed to get them to settle down with setting solution. The "tractor scheme", so named due to the shortage of supplies except for the green and black that was used for the huge tractor production in the country, is Model Master Enamels.
